Stoke-on-Trent Retirement Village Wins Awards

April 8th, 2018

With the rising popularity of retirement villages dotted around the UK, we at Just Imagine aim to make sure they look as homely and inviting as possible. It is easy for a large building to feel intimidating, however by using our knowledge & expertise we managed to create a home that was striking yet welcoming at Willow Barns, Blurton.

According to a survey by the Office for National Statistics, the number of people ages 65 and over in the UK is set to grow from 11.6 million in 2015 to 17.2 million by 2035, an increase of more than 50%, while the number of people aged 85 and over is set to double from just over 1.5 million in 2015 to almost 3.2 million in 2035, an increase of over 131%. According to Demos’ ‘The Top of the Ladder‘ report, one quarter of UK homeowners ages 60 and over – around 3.5 million people – express particular interest in buying a retirement property for reasons that range from moving closer to family, to reducing the risk of accidents by moving into purpose-built accommodation.

Bearing this in mind, it’s important for retirement housing, specifically retirement villages, to be built in areas that need them the most – and whilst competition will be rising, it’s important for us to make sure your retirement housing stands out from the crowd!

Willow Barns is one of three retirement villages purpose-built in Stoke-on-Trent within the £100m Stoke Extra Care PFI project, which cater for the over-55s & was the largest scheme of its kind to be developed in the area.

The project was nominated as a finalist for the LABC Building Excellence Awards for Best High Volume New Housing Development & Best Public Service Building, and was the winner of the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development & the Housing Design Awards 2017 HAPPI Awards (Housing our Aging Population Positive Ideas). Just Imagine are proud to have been a part of this project from initial brief to completion.
